With 2019 in the rearview, WETHEPEOPLE reflects on a whirlwind of a year with the help of Director Arturo Perez Jr. & Quarter Life Poetry in ‘Circle Back’ for FX’s “Cake,” an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival.
An anthology short-form series curated weekly by FX Network, “Cake” brings to life a wide spectrum of narratives that are as artistic as they are thought-provoking. The live-action and animated collection has featured Natasha Lyonne, Mamoudou Athie, Oh Jerome, No; Two Pink Doors; Psychotown; Drifters; Daytime Noir; Quarter Life Poetry and many more.
In ‘Circle Back,’ Quarter Life Poetry’s Samantha Jayne and WTP Director Arturo Perez Jr. remind viewers to breathe, take a beat and circle back in a plea for a healthier work-life balance, a mindset that we would most certainly advocate for in 2020. The music video / short film hybrid is dedicated to “the ladies on the 9 to 5 grind,” highlighting an average workday through a dynamic corporate office with women at the center. When the workload feels endless and infuriating challenges ensue, Jayne’s sage advice is to hit pause, circle back later and prioritize your needs, while acknowledging that it is easier said than done.
Choreographed to perfection through an almost-architectural lens, the emotionally-charged, poetry-infused musical is a derivative of the hit book and Instagram account about the anxiety of life in your twenties – mainly “for the young, the broke and the hangry.”
